After stretching the tolerance of my sleeping patterns to the limit for yet another night I'm glad that today brought neither work nor rehearsal. Although in a way I did both, spending hours this afternoon singing by myself to the rough-mix of the Big Nod from the Minneapolis sessions to prepare for tomorrow's impending gig. Which we're getting up for in five hours.
Tonight we were hosted again by Simon and James in their lovely house, with more people than you would expect would comfortably fit in the room. Highlights of the night were: me saying 'Ben I've got good news' to Ben, and a lad called Ben who was passing outside hearing through the open door and coming in thinking someone was addressing him, and then a brilliant idea by Tom, myself, and the Wolf (pictured) to host a night of band collaborations, played out across a gig room by bands on opposing stages - watch this space.....
I also can think of at least three reasons why it wouldn't work...

Here is another picture of Vessels in our rehearsal studio - there will be a lot of pictures like this to come, because I spend so many evenings with these same four people in this same cramped but indispensible basement. The pictures may include any or all of the boys, perhaps myself included if somebody else takes the picture, or they may include none of them. I might post an image of any one of a possible hundreds of broken and discarded pieces of audio equipment - the studio is like an amp mortuary. Perhaps if we chucked them all away there'd be enough space to rehearse.
Tonight's session was ace......
Your messages help me sleep at night....

We haven't had a Vessels rehearsal for over a month. We went from rehearsing up to six times a week, to the indulgent joy of the holiday season, and it was fully in evidence tonight. Though for all that we were sloppy and couldn't remember how to play our songs, it was pretty exciting - I just hope that said excitement can blag us through the gig we have to play in London in two days time......
Can anyone please email me the chords to the Big Nod please

What better way to start the New Year than to make dinner for 20 people on two hour's sleep. Tom and I made Sweet potato patties with East African Piri Piri, Channa Dahl with coconut, Chickpea, date and pine-nut pilau, Rocket and Orange salad with Rose Water dressing served with White bean + Mint Puree with duqqa, Pomegranate, beetroot and walnut salad with Goats's cheese, and home-made chilli and lime ice cream for desert. Althought to say that Tom and I prepared it all would be a massive fib, loads of folks helped out to construct the banquet.
I'm sorry if we didn't invite you to the yard for New Year scran, but if we'd have invited everyone we wanted to then we would have had to cook for a hundred, and that would be well silly. It was the most fun I've ever had cooking, so sit tight and you'll all be invited to the yard for a scran-up before too long..... In small, manageable numbers...
First one to message can come for dinner this weekend...

New Years eve was a pretty special do. Dave Smith hosted us all night long in his lovely house, with home-made pizza, live DJs, and two rooms full of some of my best friends. Needless to say we stayed up far too late and had an ace time. It's nice to be back in Leeds (thanks for the lift Dave) and this year is already shaping up to be fairly tasty.....
I couldn't decide on which photo was my favourite - J butterfly, or angel Nadine, so since its New Year you can have em both....
When's we hooking up to jam ey?.....
